                                                            Chapter 10

                                        -Angel Encounters-

Looking across the table from her she saw an angel with red hair, green eyes and a sort of silent demeanor. She could see that he was about to say something, and the angels nearby could sense it without having looked at him, and they nevertheless looked in his direction just before he spoke. Kim wondered to herself how it was that the angels were able to sense something specific without having the foreknowledge to know what was going to happen. “Am I going to just accept everything I hear and see, or am I going to keep wondering about it after whatever it is has taken place?” She decided that she would accept it, and that there was plenty of time later to marvel over it. And she did not want to miss what this angel across from her was going to say.

“I had a rather interesting experience not long ago on the Island of Barbados.”

Kim turned her head slightly sideways in a questioning look at Rahm. Rahm leaned towards her and with his hand shielding the sound of his answer to Kim’s questioning look whispered, “An Island in the Caribbean.” Nodding her head slightly, Kim replied with a short “Oh.”

“My human is a fellow named Michael and he was in his twenties when this happened not long ago.” Kim was beginning to accept the fact that when angels said something like, a short time ago, or not long ago, it was always relative since their conception of time was different that hers.

“It happened in a city and Michael was waiting for a bus. He had been waiting for a few minutes before the bus actually arrived and when it did, he along with the other people proceeded to get on the bus. Michael was the last one to get on and the bus was almost full. Just as Michael stepped up onto the bus and before he had gripped the side bar, his gaze was on the other side of the street and at that exact moment, a woman on the other side of the street who was dressed in a red, well…unprotective style of dress walking in the same direction in which the bus was heading. Well, I mentioned that Michael was a young man. And the bus driver was not looking at Michael who was, well, halfway perched in the bus door, his hand as if frozen still in mid-air and not clutching the side bar. The bus began moving and Michael who was still watching the woman in the red dress was unaware that he was falling backwards. The bus had picked up speed at this point and Michael was in danger. He realized this just as the side bar extended out of his reach. His heart began to pump really fast and I reached out and shoved him back up and he grabbed the side bar. Wide eyed and breathing hard, he looked every which way, expecting to see a human there, but of course he could not see me next to him speeding along with the bus. And he never forgot it. He would share the incident now and then wherever he lived whether that was in Barbados, upper New York State or somewhere else.”

“Wow! That is so amazing!” Kim tried to think of a time in her life when she was in danger, and whether or not an angel had saved her, but she could not think of anything offhand. At that, she noticed that the group of angels sitting near and around her at the table glanced to an angel on the other side of Rahm who had black hair, blue eyes and a very cheerful expression.

“I also had an interesting experience with my human who also lived in the Caribbean on the island of Cuba. His name is Arsenio, and he was the only son of a prosperous business man. Well, Arsenio and his family, as well as the whole neighborhood was in a certain amount of danger.  One night, the power that had taken control in Cuba was use to staging scare tactics.”

Looking at Kim because he knew that she would not understand, the angel proceeded to explain. “You see Kim, some governments, particularly the style of government you would know as communist, once they are entrenched in power, commence scare tactics for purpose of keeping the citizens in line through fear.”

“Oh.” said Kim. “I am glad I do not live in a country like that.”

“Not yet,” the angel replied. Before Kim could ask any questions, the angel went on. “Very often, the leaders of countries like that use fear to keep their citizens in line. Well, one night when Arsenio was sleeping, the government sent fighter plans to the city and neighborhood where Arsenio lived. His father was a sensible man who never precipitated unpleasantness by defying the government, and always had the welfare of his family in mind rather than lashing out because the injustices they suffered. The communists had slowly taken almost all his considerable wealth. Anyways, Arsenio’s father who had become a light sleeper, heard one night the sounds and droning of fighter plans. He could tell they were headed in the direction of his neighborhood.  He rushed into Arsenio’s bed room which was on a second floor and told Arsenio to leave the house as quickly as possible. Arsenio wasted no time and could easily hear the airplanes getting closer. He ran out into the street where all the neighbors were scurrying around trying to find shelter from what would be called 50 caliber machine gun bullets. Just before the airplanes roared overhead, their machine guns firing everything in their path, Arsenio ducked behind a thin door leaning up against the brick wall of a building. If I had been a second too late, he would have been killed for sure. There were bullet holes all over the door, but I was able to prevent any bullets from hitting where Arsenio’s body was. And, when it was over, Arsenio said, in Spanish, “However did I survive?”

“So, you can stop bullets? You are that fast?” Kim had not considered this although later she would wonder why it should have surprised her with everything she had seen.

“Well Kim, because we can convert ourselves into energy, we can travel faster than the speed of light, and also, we can alter the trajectory of the path of any bullets and I had to do that to save Arsenio’s life. Actually, I had to save his life again because he became a target of the secret police in Cuba and also when he escaped Cuba, which is an interesting story, but for another time.”

“That is incredible. I can’t wrap my mind around how evil some people can be. And after being here for a while, I can’t wrap my mind around the knowledge of how good God is, I mean in sending you all to protect so many people”

“As you spend more time here, His goodness will be clearer,” Rahm replied.

“So, were people killed in the streets in Cuba when the airplanes flew through?”

The angel nodded sadly before continuing.

“Yes. Many people died that day.”

“But why weren’t there more angels to save other people?”

“Well Kim, you have to understand that the enemy is at the moment, sort of like a governor. He will be defeated, but he still has power, and we good angels have fight with evil angels to not only save souls, but to save them also from physical harm. The reason that Arsenio was spared was because someone was praying for him and his family. That someone was his Aunt Clara who lived in Grants Pass Oregon. It was because that devout and faithful person was praying that Arsenio’s life was spared. Her prayers enable me to save Arsenio. When a prayer is prayed by someone who believes that God will answer it, it gives us authority to be on the enemies ground and to rescue people he would prefer to be killed and destroyed. And if he cannot destroy them with death, he will do what he can to make them miserable. Good angels do everything they can to encourage humans and once in a while this translates to extraordinary measures.”

            “What kind of extraordinary measures?”

At that, Kim noticed that the angels near her turned to an angel who was sitting next to her. He was a very tall angel with greenish eyes and auburn like hair.

“That might include encouragement. At some point, my human had severe depression. His name was Glen and he was frequently downhearted. His family was not aware that he suffered from a form of what you might call clinical depression although it was never diagnosed. One night, when Glen went to bed so discouraged and sad, I knew that it was time for an extraordinary measure, and I received permission for it from a higher-ranking angel. When Glen, weary worn and sad went to bed and to sleep, I materialized and sat on his bed. Well, whether he was a light sleeper or not, that woke him up. He woke up and looked at me. I knew he knew I was an angel, and I smiled my biggest smile. Then I said to him, “Smile Glen!” And in his later years he had one of the most joyful smiles to be seen.”

“What a wonderful story,” Kim almost breathed. “I can’t help hoping that I will be in an extra-ordinary situation at some point that does not involve danger or, well depression. Honestly, I am not really worried about depression.”

“And,” replied Rahm, “you are in an extra-ordinary situation yourself right now.”

“Oh, I should have thought of that. You are right Rahm and I guess I would not want to be in danger either. My cousin Jack has a motorcycle and he is very good at riding it, but sometimes I can’t help worry because while he is a good driver, there are people out there who are not and some others who don’t care.”

After a short pause, Kim noticed that the angels looked at another angel sitting a few seats away from Kim.

“I had an interesting experience with a motorcycle recently. My human lives in China in a large city. He has a motorcycle that has a sort of cart attached to the back and he goes to the markets to sell vegetables and other items. Of course, he tries to get to the market earlier, which involved him getting up long before daylight to make the considerable trek to where he gets what he sells and then to the market. Well, at what would be three AM in the morning, there is not much traffic even in a large city. My human was speeding along towards an intersection. What he did not know was that there was a large van approaching the same intersection at the same time. Well, it was early and neither the van driver or my human was really aware or watching for other vehicles. I was hoping that either the van driver or my human would slow down, but neither of them did, and I had to go into action. I regret to say that all of it was caught on camera and posted to some internet video site. Right before the van could hit the bike, I sped up to the bike and dematerialized in what must have been a fraction of a second. The van stopped and the driver got out looking all around. He had seen the bike disappear, but he could not make his brain believe what his eyes saw, and he look under and around and behind his van to no avail. I dematerialized on a side street that was also recorded. Humans quite often will not think about God when angels save them, and we good angels always give God the credit. So, we avoid people seeing us do good things because they are prone to not think about the fact that God sent us. Their entire focus would be on us and we want their entire focus to be on the goodness of God. But this principle comes second to saving their lives. Anyways, I dematerialized on a side street and my human was quite shook up. He leaned as far away as he could, and like the van driver, he had a conflict of his brain believing what his eyes were seeing. He then sat down on the curb to recover. I made sure that he was okay before walking away as quickly as I could.”

“That is so amazing!” Kim could not get over how the world of the invisible so controlled and directed the world of sight.  Sitting not very far away she could see the angel who had controlled the red boat she had been on earlier. She waited till he looked her way and of course realized that she wanted to ask him a question.”

“Esthoryne, was there a time when you saved a human's life?”

“Yes Kim there was. The human whose life I saved is now in what is known as radio ministry in the US state of Arkansas. At the moment another angel is guarding him but that is another story. Well, when Len was a boy of about eight or ten, an incident happened and I had to save his life. His mother had what was known as a 1950 Plymouth convertible and it had bench seats. Unfortunately his mother and his grandparents had a heated disagreement. His mother was so upset that she got in her car and drove off. At the time the roads were not paved and the mother was driving much faster than usual. Humans do dangerous things when they get very angry. She went right through the nearest intersection but the tires on what humans call the passenger's side of the car slipped into the ditch and hit the oncoming road. The car went airborne and of course at such speeds, humans cannot control whether they fly into whatever is in front of them. Our reaction time is fast enough so that we are able to pick them out of the air. And before Len knew what happened, I had picked him out of the air and set him down on a nearby lawn.  Len always said that he was sure his guardian angel saved him.

Kim had alternated between keeping her eyes on whoever had been speaking and darting glances the delicious food in front of her. She did not realize it, but though the food was so real and good, her utensils with food on them had stayed in mid-air for more than several minutes. The angels noticed this but glanced at each other with quiet knowing smiles.

Chapter 8

                                                                        -Is God Fair?-

“Cyrus the great?”

“Yes. This book is about him. Cyrus was a King who lived more than two thousand five hundred years from your time. His name was Cyrus, and humans call him Cyrus the great. His life was a very interesting life, but there is no time to go into it. There is one scene in his life that is very important, and we are going to observe that scene using the hydro-holographic mist. Are you ready?”

“Oh yes. I could look at the hydro-holographic mist and never get tired of it.”

            “Okay then.”

At that, Kim turned around from the two angels, and the table with the book on it to the other end of the rectangle shaped, vaulted room. Kim had not noticed it before, but the room was a very tall room with a strange kind of light almost sifting down.

Kim looked downward to see the mist coming into the room almost like the flurries of millions of small snowflakes. Almost as if the mist was alive, it began to fly here and there, the colors immediately began creating shapes and patterns and a background. The way that the colored mist droplets zipped and meandered about as a shape was forming reminded Kim of a large crowd of people scrambling to get into a large house with many doors and windows.  Right next to Kim the mist was resolving itself into something that Kim could not discern at first. But as it came together, Kim realized that it was a soldier of some kind standing guard or at attention.

She looked up and saw that she and Rahm were in a courtyard or square. On two sides of the square were two strange, large buildings. She looked down and saw that the area had a kind of stone that almost reflected the building in front of her. She looked in front of her to see a large building. It was about the size and shape of a gym that has a full-sized basketball court, only this building was a little longer, a little deeper and quite a bit taller. Its size and shape looked like a basketball court except that the whole side of the building that faced her was open with pillars supporting it. Kim could imagine seeing two teams playing basketball in the large space in the building quite easily. One basket would be to her right and the opposite basket would be to her left. At the top of the building was an elaborate kind of mosaic like an ornate mantle that was similar to mantles she had seen overlapping brick fireplaces.

On one side of the building to the left was a very large and strange kind of statue that was the color of silver. It was so large and tall that it ran the length of the end of the building. It looked like the body of a lion, with the wings of some kind of bird and the neck and head of a very serious looking bearded man with a crown. Even though the expression on the face of the statue was rather severe, the crown sort of reminded Kim of a little box with very straight, uniform and orderly French fries sticking out of it. Kim turned to her right till she was facing a white stone building that looked a little like a pyramid with steps leading to the top except that there was a little stone building on the top where the steps ended.

She turned all the way around and saw the guard still standing at attention in a line of guards on the edge of the courtyard. She looked more closely at the soldier next to her. His hand held onto a spear that rested on the stone beneath them both. His hand, resting, yet holding onto the middle of the spear next to him was about a foot away from Kim. She could not resist the urge to blow in the direction of the hand. She knew what would happen, and it was no less interesting than if she had not known what would happen.

The hydro-holographic mist that made up the hand, spear and part of the arm whirled about like bubbles in a pot of boiling water, and erratically flittered in the immediate vicinity of where the soldier’s hand was. It was such fun to see part of his hand, the spear and arm suddenly disappear and just as readily resume their shape and color. Kim could not help herself and reacted again with a start. If the mist could have talked, Kim imagined that hundreds of tiny little squeaky voices might have said, “Please don’t do that!”  She looked at the soldier and was about to say sorry, but she stopped herself just in time.

The soldier was dressed in something that was a cross between a well-fitting kilt and a slim robe like tunic. He held a spear in one hand and a short sword strapped to his side with a shield being held by the other hand. He had some sort of metal helmet on his head and some things that looked like sandals on his feet.

Kim noticed that the guards who were standing in a perfect line at the edge of the courtyard in front of the building hardly moved. One of them moved his nose when a fly landed on it, and one of them sneezed. She heard a cough and followed the sound to one of the guards who was stationed in front of one of the pillars in front of the building. It struck Kim that this was probably a hot country and that they could get away constructing a building that was missing one side. The building’s pillars were red, but the chapiters on the bottom were a sort of brownish color while the chapiters at the top of the building were the color of silver.

“Oh, this must be the palace of that King the angel mentioned. What was his name?”

            “King Cyrus.”

            “Rahm! What is happening?”

Kim noticed that everything was slowly coming towards her, and for a second she did not know what was going on. She looked down at her feet which were not moving, but the almost reflective brick like tiles beneath her were moving under her. It was like the moving walkways she had seen in airports when she would hold herself up with her arms supported by the railings on either side. She was standing in one place, but she still saw everything coming closer. The large building that could have been a full-sized basketball court was coming towards her slowly but steadily. She felt a little silly when she realized that the hydro-holographic mist was portraying and advancing to the large building in the same way a camera would slowly and methodically approach whatever it was filming when the director wanted a slow casual close up.

Kim looked around and could see soldiers walking here and there, from the large building and away from it. Some of them were dressed more richly, and Kim assumed that those people must be officers. After a short while, the hydro-holographic mist was at the point to where Kim and Rahm were almost between the two central pillars even though they had not moved or walked. In front of each pillar was a soldier standing guard and staring straight ahead. Each one of them had a beard, most of which looked a lot alike.

“I guess these people here do not believe in shaving. Everybody had a beard.”

In front of Kim and Rahm about twenty paces in from the pillars was a tall man with a gold crown. He looked like a King with his rich robes and his gold, squarish crown. He was dressed like a king, but he also looked like a military man. Kim could see that the man was pacing back and forth in front of a tall gold throne. Kim noticed briefly that there were two angels with one on each side of the throne. She turned to look at the King as he paced. It was a not an anxious pace, but one where the King stopped, and appeared to think now and then.

Kim looked more closely at one angel and noticed that he had six wings.

“Hey Rahm, there is an angel on the left who has six wings, just like the angel…I think you called him a cherub, who was leading the singing earlier. He is really bright! I wonder if it is the same angel. He looks really dignified and…very powerful. I would have to watch what I said around an angel like that. If he were to show up in my time, I might be cowed into…well perhaps fear. And probably, on earth, his brightness would blind me.”

            “That’s right Kim, it would.”

Suddenly the King went back to his throne and sat down. On either side of him were guards who were very alert and certainly on duty. After that, the two angels stepped closer to the King’s throne and bent down and as if they were whispering something to him. They put their hands closer to the King, but neither angel said anything. Kim looked at the same angel she had seen on the left, and saw that he was concentrating very deeply on the King sitting on the throne. The angel, or cherubim had a kind, yet serious expression on his face. Kim supposed that this angel could probably sing and easily be heard fifty miles away, like the cherub she had seen directing the music earlier. Again, Kim could see that this angel exuded power and dignity.  Kim looked to her right to see the other angel she had not really looked at and she could tell that he was a cherub too since he also had six wings.

“Hey Rahm, the angel on the right is even brighter…and slightly taller than the one on the left. I…”

At the moment, Kim nearly jumped out of her skin, and she felt goosebumps. The expression on this angel’s face was awful. The two angels looked very much alike in that they were tall, very serious, and radiated light, but their expressions were like night and day.”

“Rahm! I am glad this is a hydro-hologram! I have never seen a more hideous expression! Why does that angel look so vicious…his face is…it is pure evil!”

“Kim, as you know, the King here is Cyrus. He is one of the very greatest Kings in human history. He has just defeated the very powerful city-state of Babylon. This is important because Babylon had conquered Jerusalem seventy years prior to this. Now, Cyrus is trying to decide whether to let the Israelites go back to Israel or not. On the left you have Gabriel, the highest ranking being in Zion and heaven, directly under Christ in heavenly authority. On the right, you have he who was once known as Lucifer, or the devil.”

“What? He does not look like a devil to me, well except for that awful awful expression. Uh…did we already have this discussion?”

            “What discussion?”

“Well, about the devil not looking…well like a devil.”

“I believe we did. To sum up what we talked about earlier, if people do not believe he is a myth, the devil would have them believe that he is a hideous beast like creature with bat wings, horns, a tail and a pitch fork. That horrible expression you are seeing, well he can turn it into the most innocent smile you ever saw. He has a great power to deceive if people suppose he looks like a devil when he could show up as an angel of light, such as you are seeing here, except for that awful smile. Now, what you are seeing here is a battle.”

            “A battle?”

“Not a battle with weapons, but a battle for the mind.”

            “Whose mind?”

            “King Cyrus.”

            “Oh, right. What…how are they…fighting?”

“Lucifer and Gabriel are fighting. Now, angels do have physical fights, but this is another form of fighting. Now, Gabriel’s mission is to influence Cyrus to let the Israelites return to Israel where they had lived until seventy years ago when they were relocated by their conquerors, the Babylonians. Satan wants to influence Cyrus to keep the Israelites in Persia where certain prophecies regarding the Messiah would be much more difficult to be carried out. Look at the expression of Cyrus. Now his head is leaned slightly closer to Gabriel. Did you see that look of compassion? Now without explaining angel anatomy, let’s say that angels can plant ideas in the minds of people.  Did you see that look of compassion when Gabriel leaned close to Cyrus and put his hand next to Cyrus’s head?”

“I did Rahm. The King looked rather handsome.”

“Yes. Now look. Satan is leaning even closer now, but he is putting his hand closer to Cyrus’s heart. Did you see that change of expression?”

“Oh Rahm…I did! His face…sort of hardened, and he got a…slightly smug look in his eyes. Kind of like…someone who had just cheated someone else. Rahm…why would one angel put his hand closer to the king’s head, but…well, I saw the devil put his hand closer to the King’s heart. Why would they do that?”

“Well Kim, there is something you should know, and it won’t take me long to explain the basics of it. Medical science has advanced a lot in the time you come from. One of the less commonly known breakthroughs has to do with a branch of medical science called Neurocardiology.”

“Whoa Rahm! My mother is a nurse, but I have never heard her use a word like that. How could you know about it?”

“There are many miracles that medical science from your time still has to learn about regarding the wonders of the human body. What is known on earth as Neurocardiology, is a rather neglected yet new branch of what you may call medical science. Neurology, the study of the how neurons or brain cells work and, cardiology, how the heart works. Together, they make that long work. A few weeks ago, Valnor came to my home for lunch and he told me about it then, and we talked about it for quite a while.”

“Oh. What about that long word you told me about? Nuero…something or other.”

“Neurocardiology. That would be the study brain cells in the heart. Do you know much about the heart Kim?”

“Well…not a whole lot. My mother does not take care of people who have heart problems. She works in the part of the hospital where babies are born. But ah…isn’t the heart a very advanced pump?”

“Yes and no. You see Kim, the heart has neurons. About forty thousand of them.”

“Wait, are you saying that there are brain cells in the heart?”

“That is what I am saying Kim. Now the way neurons function in the heart is a little different than the way they function in the brain.”

“Ah, Rahm, not to be rude, but what does this have to do with King Cyrus?”

“Well, I am coming to that and the two subjects are related. Unlike the cells in the brain, each of the forty thousand cells in the human heart communicates with every other cell in the heart at the same time. That gives the heart some advantages over the brain. The heart actually issues physiological orders to the brain and usually, those orders are obeyed. Have you ever had an irresistible urge to do something that your brain…your reasoning powers cautioned you against? That would be an example of a physiological order. The heart thinks like the brain, but in some ways, it is more powerful. Humans from your time believe that thinking is something that only the brain does. I am guessing that you have heard of brain waves, but medical scientists from your time have discovered that the heart has waves of its own, only they are eight to ten times stronger than brain waves. Now, the dusty Bible on your bookshelf will tell you in Jeremiah 17:9 that the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked.”

“Really? I guess I had never heard that. All I ever hear about is following your heart.”

“There is a reason for that. Did you notice how the devil’s hand was near the heart of King Cyrus? Notice how much he is trying to sway King Cyrus.”

“Ah, yes. Oh Rahm…what a wicked smile! No horror movie would compare to that. I am glad that this a hydro-holographic mist!”

“Notice how Gabriel’s hand is nearer the head of King Cyrus. Notice how intense his expression is.”

“Yes. Oh! Gabriel just smiled too. Ah…Rahm, I hope I am not getting red in the face.”

“Well, you are, but it’s okay. No one will hear about it. Now take a look at the King’s face. Notice how he keeps looking from side to side. He just looked in Gabriel’s direction and you can see a look of compassion. Now he is looking in Satan’s direction and you can see a look of pride and greed. This is a battle for the mind. There is a deadly reason why the idea of following your heart, is so prevalent in your time. Now, there are times when good angels will put their hands near a human’s heart. A good angel will put his hand near a human’s heart in an attempt to encourage and suggest wholesome emotions and to bring courage, comfort and strength. And evil angels will do all they can to destroy the efforts of good angels to influence a human’s heart. Valnor tells me that he hears the phrase, “follow your heart” everywhere. But if the fallen heart is so easily compromised by the devil, then if you do follow your heart, you are indirectly letting the devil have even more control over the heart by letting it control the reasoning powers of the frontal lobe. It cannot be overstated that this is a desperate and dangerous situation that, nevertheless, many millions of humans are in. And good angels are constantly at work, to suggest good thoughts. Thoughts that appeal to the reasoning powers rather than pure emotion. Now, look at the scene before you. Let me ask you something. Who has the advantage?”

“Well…maybe…I am not sure. Satan is slightly brighter than Gabriel, and the King seems to look in his direction more than Gabriel’s. I hope Gabriel succeeds!”

“Satan is implanting thoughts into the heart of King Cyrus. Of course, King Cyrus cannot see the destroyer of souls next to him, or the mightiest angel in heaven on the other side.”

“How long have they been doing this?”

            “Almost three weeks.”

“What! Three weeks? They have been doing this for three weeks?”

“Yes. And as mighty as Gabriel is, Satan has several advantages. Satan is working on the heart for the most part…on feelings and emotions. He will use reason when he can, but usually he does not. The heart of King Cyrus, like all other fallen humans’ controls many of his actions, and Satan will work with the fallen heart. The natural inclination of Cyrus is that he would want to the Jews to stay in Babylon and Persia. That he has control over a people group that the former empire of Babylon conquered is yet another feather in his cap. It is a boost to his pride, and the enemy of souls is trying to impress him to not let the Jews go free. His heart desires ever more honor and prestige, and Satan is using that to his advantage.  Another advantage is that Satan will always use bad habits against people, and that is why cultivating bad habits can lead people on the road to destruction.

This is another instance where Satan or one of his underlings will resort to using the mind…where the habits are formed to work against God’s will and towards the destruction of the person in question. Another advantage is that Satan will use misimpressions and deceit. If someone believes in God, and is wanting to do God’s will, Satan will work in concert with the fallen heart. He will plant doubts in the mind of the person who wants to honor God. It is not in the nature of holy unfallen angels to use any trickery or deceit. This is why Gabriel’s work here is very difficult.

“Rahm…if what you have told me is true, and I am not trying to be difficult, then is there truly such a thing as free will?”

“Of course. On the one side, evil angels seek to work against God’s will and towards the destruction of man by planting evil thoughts in his already evil heart, while on the other side, good angels seek to plant good thoughts and suggestions in the mind of man. Imagine, in your time, that there is a busy street. A sad older lady is trying to cross the road on the crosswalk, and she has heavy grocery bags. A group of boys approaches her from behind. Now, fallen angels would implant into the hearts of those boys to either ignore the older lady who is struggling with her heavy bags, bother her or something worse. And good angels would be suggesting a different course of action to the reasoning powers of those boys. Let me ask you Kim, what would the good angels be suggesting?”

“Well, that the older lady is tired and the bags are too heavy for her. They would…as you told me…implant into the thoughts of the boys the idea to help the older lady. To carry her bags, help her across the street and to cheer her up.”

“Exactly. Now even though those boys have fallen hearts, and even though evil angels may be suggesting evil actions and good angels will be suggesting good actions, it is still up to the boys.  Now, maybe the habits they have formed will lead them to either be kind or selfish. But…it is the choice of the young boys. It is their choice. They cannot be forced by either good or evil angels. So, free will is still theirs. And here in front of us, you see King Cyrus trying to make a decision which will then become a law which, in the ancient kingdom of Persia, cannot be changed again even by the King, so a lot is riding on this decision. That is why Gabriel is trying so hard, and why Satan is also trying so hard. In the end it will be the choice of King Cyrus.”

“But after three weeks, is there hope that Gabriel will succeed? I mean…Rahm…what is happening?”

At that moment several things happened. Kim and Rahm had been standing near the King and she had not looked around her. She had been looking at him when she was talking to him and asking him questions. She looked around the see many angels in the room.

“Rahm…why did I not see the other angels earlier?”

“Because…this is something humans never see. And to show you too much at one time is not wise. So, we have introduced you to the realities of heaven, one step at a time, so that we do not shock you too much. So, we showed you the hydro-holographic mist with Moses, the Princess and the scribe first, without the angelic activity in the background. Then, a few minutes ago, we showed you two angels who are trying to work with Cyrus, each for a different reason. And now we are not holding anything back from you.”

At first, Kim could not tell one angel from another. They were all glorious and beautiful beings with a glow, or outline of light about each of them as they moved or stood in once place. But as she looked at each face, it was easy to tell who were evil angels and who were good angels. The evil angels, like Satan, all had hideous expressions, as if molded by millenniums of hate and cruelty. They stood a number of paces to Satan’s right, as if ready to receive instructions or to go on errands. Every once in a while, an evil angel would come into the palace and go right up next to Satan and say something Kim could not understand. The enemy would appear to react but would not slacken from trying to influence his victim. Sometimes what they said brought back that awful hideous smile, and sometimes their messages would convey information that made the anger in the eyes of the enemy of soul’s glitter with rage. When this happened, Kim could not help moving quickly next to Rahm or griping his hand in with two of hers. He would smile, glance down and reply.

“You are safe Kim.”

Kim would nod, smile a little and loosen her grip. The good angels stood on Gabriel’s left, and sometimes an angel would come into the palace and say something to Gabriel who would nod and sometimes reply, but never lose his focus.

“Rahm, if this has been going on for three weeks, who is going to win? Will it be Gabriel or Satan?”

“Kim, it will be someone who has never lost a battle which would exclude both Satan and Gabriel. We came to this point in time for a special reason. Something very special is about to happen.”

At that moment, Kim saw a strong angel with a joyful expression come into the room. Both Gabriel and Satan saw him at the same time, and Kim could tell that this angel was a good one. Kim watched Gabriel as he smiled very slightly and kept his hands near the gold crown of King Cyrus. The enemy of souls with an intense and obsessed expression, pressed his hands even closer to the heart of King Cyrus. The smug look returned, and Kim saw in the eyes of King Cyrus a sort of self-congratulatory expression.  Kim could see that King Cyrus was raising his hand and was about to address one of the many attendants who were standing nearby.

At that moment, an evil angel darted into the palace and up to the devil. The evil angel’s expression was hideous like all the other evil angels, only added to the hideous expression was a wide-eyed terror, and the angel shivered and shook as he said something to Satan. He pointed a quivering finger in the direction he had come from. Kim saw the look of rage and also a bit of despair flash in the face of the enemy of souls. Kim looked at the other evil angels. They had crowded away from Satan even further to the right and were huddled together shaking with fear and glancing anxiously at the two central pillars not far from Kim.

“Rahm! What are such powerful beings so afraid of?”

“Later I would like to tell you about verse 8 in chapter 9 of a book called Mathew. But for the present, your question is about to be answered.”

Just after she said this, Kim noticed two things. One was that she felt as if there was a very bright light behind her. Also, the two central pillars not far behind her were slowly creating shadows on the far wall past the throne in front of her as the light behind her increased. She looked to her left and saw the good angels all bowing towards the light. She looked at Gabriel who now did not seem as bright as he did before, and he was facing the light, bowing on one knee near the throne of King Cyrus. Kim turned to look behind her just as Rahm said something to her.

“Kim, you should shield your eyes!”

Kim tried to but she had turned too quickly, and she was blinded by something not far behind her. Once again, Kim could see the big blue dots on the inside of her eyelids. For a few seconds, she kept her eyes closed and the sensation of an almost tearful reaction was overpowering. Opening them, she could still see big blue dots, but not much else. Just before She shielded her eyes, she saw that the light was a person and she closed her eyes yet again. Gabriel and Satan had been bright and majestic in their own way, but this was something completely different.

“You know Kim…there was a man named Paul who saw this bright being, and he had vision problems for the rest of his life. Even though what you are seeing is the hydro-holographic mist, things might be a little dark for a while, but soon you will be able to see better, and I will explain what is going on.”

“So…who was…I mean, who is that?”

“That is Michael the archangel. It was he who resurrected me.”

Kim kept her eyes shut, but even through her eyelids, the approaching light of the arch-angel who was passing by her was overpowering.

“Michael is approaching the side where Satan is. He has stopped. He is saying something to Satan. Satan’s angels have bolted. Ah, there now, Satan has shot out of the palace also. I guess Michael commanded them to leave, and they did. Michael is now standing next to King Cyrus. One of his hands is near the crown of Cyrus, and the other hand is near the heart. I should add that while Satan also had his hand near the heart of Cyrus, it is for a different reason that Michael has his hand near the heart of the King.”

At that point, Kim opened her eyes and blocked out the arch-angel with her hands. Even though her hands were covering the arch-angel, His brightness was still overwhelming. She looked at King Cyrus, and she saw the hands of Michael, one near the King’s heart, and one near the King’s crown. Kim saw the expression of Cyrus change. It went from proud and cold to warm and compassionate. The King did not shut his eyes, but they closed a little as his head leaned closer to Michael and he nodded as if he had made a decision.

“Rahm…what is King Cyrus going to do?”

As if to answer Kim’s question, King Cyrus clapped his hands together and addressed his servants in a deep voice, full of authority. Kim heard English words, but saw, yet again that the mouth of King Cyrus was speaking words that were not English. There was no sign of any evil angels anywhere, and the good angels were still bowing to Michael with expressions of utter joy on their bowed faces. Kim heard Cyrus and looked on as the King spoke.

“Let it be known throughout all the realms of my Empire. I, Cyrus, decree that the Jews will return to their homeland. Also, I will provide for them to build their temple to their god. Let it be written in the laws of the Medes and the Persians, and let it be carried out.”

Kim could see better now, and she squinted a little so that the bright light did not blind her again. She saw Michael walk to where Gabriel was bowed on his knee. Michael tapped Gabriel on the shoulder and Gabriel rose. Kim realized that Michael was almost a head taller than Gabriel. Michael said something to Gabriel, indicating a direction out of the palace of Cyrus the Persian. Gabriel nodded and swiftly departed.

            “Rahm…where is Gabriel going?”

“He is going to the city of Babylon where there is a very old prophet by the name of Daniel. He has a message from Michael for that prophet. When you return to your own time, you can read about that message in a book of the Bible, also called Daniel. Daniel 10:13.”

“I will certainly do that. I am very interested to know what Michael wanted…ah Danial to know. And it won’t be eavesdropping either.”

At that, Michael stepped forward towards Kim and Rahm.

“Thank you, Rahm, for helping Kim understand. Hello Kim. I look forward to talking to you later.”

Kim was flabbergasted. She looked at Rahm, and it seemed like a light went out. She looked back and saw that Michael was not there.

“Rahm…this is still the hydro-holographic mist, right? I mean, I have not dozed off and wandered into someone else’s dream, right?”

            “That is correct Kim.”

“Was Michael part of the holographic mist too?”

            “Yes.”

“But how could that be? It doesn’t make sense! If he were part of the mist, how could he talk to us? Wait a second! He spoke English! His lips formed the English words! It could not have been the angel in the back of the room. I mean, Michael, er rather the Arch-angel’s mouth formed the English words and his voice made the sounds!”

“Kim…there are somethings that I cannot explain. Angels can do amazing things, but none of them can bring the dead to life again as Michael did for me. At the time this hydro-holographic mist was recorded, Michael transcended time and space. At the time of this hydro-holographic mist during the Kingdom of Medio-Persia, time would not have been a barrier to Michael yet, and certainly not to his Father.”

Kim looked around and noticed that everything, King Cyrus, his servants and the great palace were standing frozen in time. Then Kim remembered that Rahm had said the word ‘yet.’

“Rahm…what did you mean when you said that time and space were not a barrier to Michael…yet?”

“Kim, I promise you, the answers are coming, and that is partly why Michael said that he would see you later. What you may not realize is how much later Michael meant. But we have a schedule to keep and I will tell you about that too.”

“I have been amazed Rahm. He did say that he would see me, again right?”

            “That is correct.”

            “When will that be?”

“Well Kim, I don’t actually know.”

“So, are we going to see what was happening in the background when we were observing the Princess and…ah the scribe from earlier?”

“At some point, yes. I need to make a few notations in that book regarding what just happened in the palace of King Cyrus.”

With that, Rahm walked to the table and took the big book down and held it low to where Kim could see it. She walked over, looked back at the frozen hydro-holographic mist of King Cyrus on his throne, surrounded by his court behind her. She noticed that the strong angel who had come to the palace just before Michael had was standing next to Cyrus with his hand next to the crown of King Cyrus. At that, Kim looked up at Rahm who was now next to her.

“Now, Cyrus was offered an opportunity to do the right thing. Is that right Kim?”

“Well…yes he was and he did.”

“So, he responded by doing the right thing?  Was God fair with him?”

“Well…yes! He sent Gabriel to help, and then Michael came. When Satan was gone, Cyrus did the right thing.”

“Good. So, we can say that God was fair with Cyrus, so we will mark it right here.”

Rahm made a sort of notation in the book which Kim could not read, but she knew that God had been fair with Cyrus. It gave Kim a good feeling to know that God was so fair and open with His records. She had never heard of any kind of judge doing that in any court case she had ever heard of. But then she remembered that in a court room there was the jury, only here, people who came here were the jurors, and in a small way, she had been doing jury duty, which gave her a good feeling.

“Okay Kim, if you are ready, we will head out of this building and to Zion’s Dining Hall. Are you hungry?”

“Oh yes! I have no idea what will be served and I am sort of enjoying the anticipation.”

“All right then.”

At that Rahm smile again and touched her shoulder with his finger. He nodded, and before Kim could even think of what to say next, she and Rahm were on the beautiful swanlike boat. She was next to a bench that was about waist high for her, and she sort of hopped and seated herself on it. Her legs were dangling of course, but it was a comfortable seat. And Rahm stepped over and sat next to her. As she looked forward, she noticed an angel standing at the front of the boat near what still looked to Kim like a cross between a swan’s head and the spiral on a violin. The angel looked back and smiled at Rahm and Kim and then nodded.

“This boat will take us to Zion’s Dining Hall.”

Kim watched, as interested as ever while the boat, directed in some way by the angel, slid out of the mooring and into the gentle flow of the waterway. Kim looked and saw the Hall of Vision passing by, and she saw also the bridge she had seen earlier.

“We are going to go under that beautiful bridge Rahm! Isn’t it beautiful to see the reflection of the water waltzing on the underside of the bridge! Is…is the underside emerald?”

“Yes Kim. That is emerald.”

“How beautiful. I can’t decide if that word is overused or not descriptive enough. And I am so interested is seeing what Zion’s Dining Hall is like.”

“It will be a treat Kim, for you and me. Even though I have been here for thousands of years, it’s appeal, splendor and joy have not diminished.”

“Are you hungry Rahm?”

“Yes, I am Kim,” Rahm replied with a smile.
